“It’s become too homogenized, too unified. There’s less room for different kinds of things,” he said of the Disney studio and its focus on Marvel movies and series and “Star Wars.”

In fact, Tim Burton has said that he has no desire to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

“I can only deal with one universe,” he said. “I can’t deal with a multiverse,” he noted, citing his experience with the 2019 “Dumbo” remake that likely ended his days at Disney.

“My story is that I started there. I was hired and fired many times throughout my career from there,” Burton said.

“I think my Disney days are over, I realized I was Dumbo, I was working in this horrible big circus and I had to escape,” he explained. “This film is quite autobiographical on a certain level,” he added.

Burton has made several highly successful films for the studio, including Alice in Wonderland and the cult classic Ed Wood, starring longtime partner Johnny Depp.
