Actor Michael J. Fox, 61, eternal star of the franchise “Back to the Future” (1985-1990) commented on the challenges and his struggle with Parkinson’s. He, who discovered the disease in 1990, has already raised more than US$ 1.5 billion (R$ 7.9 billion) for research on the disorder through his foundation.
He is to receive the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award, an honorary Oscar that recognizes outstanding philanthropic efforts. Despite this, the artist reveals in an interview with People magazine that he has been facing a difficult time since the death of his mother, Phyllis, at age 92, in 2021.
Fox says the last year managed to be even worse than 2018, which he called the “worst year of his life” in his book. “It got worse. I hurt my cheek, then I broke my hand and my shoulder, and then my right arm and my elbow. I’m 61 and I’m feeling it a little more,” she says.
Although Parkinson’s affects his movement, Fox adds that the injuries don’t mean his disease is necessarily progressing faster. He admits the incidents took a toll on his optimism about life. “I was never a grumpy guy, but it affected me.”
Even so, his wife, Tracy Pollan, 62, assures that the actor is “one of the kindest people I’ve ever met”. “[Ele] almost always looks at the situation and the people involved and thinks about others before thinking about himself,” she adds.
