After 13 years together, NFL player Tom Brady, 45, and Brazilian supermodel Gisele Bündchen, 42, have announced the end of their marriage. This Friday (28), the two confirmed, through their social networks, that they ended the divorce process, after months of rumors about a marital crisis.
The two met in 2005, shortly after Gisele ended her relationship with actor Leonardo DiCaprio. In December of the same year, a friend of the Brazilian introduced her to the athlete. In 2009, she told Vanity Fair magazine that the magnetism was immediate.
“From the first day we met onwards, we never went a single day without talking,” she said at the time. However, the relationship has already started troubled. Just two months after they got engaged, Brady’s ex-girlfriend, actress Bridget Moynahan announced that she was pregnant with John “Jack” Edward, her son with the athlete.
“[A gravidez de Bridget] It was definitely a surprise for both of us,” said Gisele. “At first, you’re living a romantic dream, thinking ‘this can’t be true, it’s too good!’ And suddenly: Time to wake up.” However, after overcoming the challenging period, the two married in 2013 and had two children: Benjamin, 12, and Vivian, 9.
A few years passed and, in 2015, another controversy involved the couple. A photo of Christine Ouzounian, identified at the time as Ben Affleck’s affair, began to circulate on the networks, with her wearing four rings of the NFL star on a private jet, which fueled rumors that the Californian athlete would have betrayed the Brazilian. However, the situation was turned around.
In 2016, international websites raised suspicions that the couple could divorce. Among the rumors were Brady’s dissatisfaction with the strictness that Gisele raised her children, and even the model’s disappointment that the athlete did not support her in her parade at the Rio 2016 Olympics – one of the most important in her life.
Despite all the rumors and statements, Gisele has always supported her husband’s career, and was often seen in the stadiums cheering for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In a 2015 statement, Brady stated that Gisele “has, without question, the loudest voice in the stadium”.
The two had been facing a marital crisis since the beginning of September and had been living separately for more than a month. The disagreements would have started after the player reversed his decision to retire from the sport, which would be Gisele’s wish.
The marital crisis came to light after Brady became news in the United States for missing his team’s training for 11 days in August. When asked about it on August 27, he said the absence had been for “personal reasons”.
According to the website Page Six, the couple will have to divide assets that exceed R$ 3 billion. The report points out that Brady has an accumulated fortune of US$ 333 million (R$ 1.7 billion), and the Brazilian another US$ 400 million (R$ 2.1 billion). Both are parents to Benjamin, 12, and Vivian, 9.
Of all this amount, about US$ 26 million (equivalent to R$ 137 million) refers to three properties. They are: a R$89 million mansion in Miami, a R$18.9 million apartment in New York and a nearly R$30 million house in a condominium in Montana.
