A meeting with the Deputy Minister of Culture and Sports, in charge of Modern Culture, Mr. Nikolas Giatromanolakis, took place today (Wednesday 3-11-2021) at noon, at the Governor’s Office, the Deputy Minister of Interior, in charge of Macedonia and Thrace, Mr. Stavros Kalafatis.
The two deputy ministers discussed the dimension of modern culture, as a lever for the development of local communities and the strengthening of the national economy, as well as extroversion.
In this context, they referred to the substantial support that can and must be provided to modern culture and its people, in order to fulfill its role as a lever of development, through -among other things- the Recovery Fund.
The Ministry of Culture and Sports claimed and secured the inclusion in the Recovery Fund of modern culture programs amounting to € 250 million, part of which aim at the development of local communities especially in Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, the promotion of Thessaloniki as a reference point for modern culture in the wider region. Balkans, as well as for the nationwide program of reviving handicrafts.
“We want to help Thessaloniki highlight its potential and extroverted character, using modern culture and the creative economy as a vehicle. As part of the 250 million euro projects that we have included for modern culture in the National Plan for Recovery and Sustainability “Greece 2.0”, the Ministry of Culture and Sports takes a substantial initiative in the design and implementation of this cultural development master plan of the city, in collaboration with the local bodies “, said Mr. Giatromanolakis.
For his part, Mr. Kalafatis stressed that “the concepts of modern Culture and Development must coexist, as, not only does it not negate, but complements each other. Our goal is to take advantage of the advantages of Northern Greece, such as, for example, the revival of handicrafts in modern terms in Eastern Macedonia and Thrace and the support of small crafts, but also the advantage of Thessaloniki in modern design, in all areas and not only in the field of industrial design.
“Thessaloniki is suitable for the development of initiatives that will make it a point of reference for modern culture in its neighborhood.”
