“The True Story of Pinocchio” by Antonis Toumanidis is written in blood.

Antonis Toumanidis from Skydra Pellas, when he started writing the “True Story of Pinocchio”, although he is a storyteller, it was impossible to imagine that a few months later, his story would travel to the other side of the Atlantic and his dark puppet, it impressed Dark Universe Pictures so much, they would decide to bring it to the big screen.
To date, Antonis Toumanidis has won over 20 international awards. Among them, those of “Best Screenplay” at the Las Vegas Film Awards and “Best Screenplay” at the New York Film Awards.
The True Story of Pinocchio Case
In the book, a serial killer, nicknamed Geppetto, terrorizes New York by turning his victims into human puppets. Detective Karl Bickler will discover a book titled “The True Story of Pinocchio” and will find that the classic tale is true and written in blood.
“The True Story of Pinocchio” is a dark tale about the bond between a father and his son, a puppet who only wanted to become a real boy, explains Antonis Toumanidis, speaking to the Athens/Macedonian News Agency .
According to the author, “the idea was based on the fact that the author Carlo Collodi, the ‘father’ of Pinocchio, initially killed the puppet – he died hanging on the branch of an oak tree. The ending of the classic tale was later varied by Kolodi. Therefore, I went back to the dark original version of the fairy tale and was inspired by it, while at the same time bringing part of the story to the present day.”
International recognition and bringing the story to the big screen
As Mr. Toumanidis says, “The True Story of Pinocchio” followed a somewhat unorthodox path. It was originally a short story in the collection of horror stories “Nightmares & Fairy Tales”.
Due to the people’s love for this particular story, he proceeded to write the script in English.
The international recognition of the screenplay brought its novel adaptation.

Referring to the unexpected proposal he received, he pointed out that he was greatly helped by producer Phaedonas Kotsiras, who is based in New York, believed in his dark fairytale world and made the “True Story of Pinocchio” known in the USA. Then the film production company Tommy V Productions (Intruders, The Outpost), enthusiastically welcomed the different approach to the classic story of the wooden puppet, and Dark Universe Picture, decided to bring it to the cinema.
The movie
“The True Story of Pinocchio is currently in early production in America for the big screen,” notes the talented writer.
Referring to the cast of actors and the rest of the elements of the film, he explains, speaking to APE-MPE, how various proposals have “fallen” on the table and various discussions are taking place regarding the actors.
“The film will be almost two hours long and will be filmed in America. Great importance is given to visual effects. Attention is given to the smallest detail so that the cinematic “True Story of Pinocchio” conveys the dark magic of the book to the maximum extent”, points out Mr. Toumanidis, who, in addition to the role of screenwriter, also participates in the execution of the production.
