Always produced by herself, all of her albums have been warmly received by critics and audiences, and almost all have been nominated for Grammys, with the hugely successful Ella Fitzgerald tribute album Dear Ella winning two. At the same time, Bridgewater was also active in musical theater, winning a Tony Award for her role in “The Wiz” in 1975, while participating in many shows, on and off-Broadway.
