In 39 consecutive draws no one predicted the lucky numbers

Records of all times and all countries of the world were broken today US Powerball jackpotreaching $1.6 billion, the largest amount ever awarded by any lottery or game of chance.

No one has been able to guess the six lucky numbers in the previous 39 draws and the amount could rise even further if there is no winner in tomorrow’s draw either.

The largest amount ever won, the “jackpot of the century”, as it was called at the time, reached 1.568 billion dollars, in 2016, but many lucky people shared it among themselves.

The astronomical amount has Americans in a frenzy, however the inhabitants of five States – which include Hawaii and Alaska – can only watch the lottery from afar, or travel miles to buy tickets from other states.

The odds of someone winning the jackpot remain one in 292.2 million. By comparison, the chance of someone being struck by lightning is smaller: one in a million.

The winner can choose whether to receive the entire amount but in annual installments over the next 29 years. If he wants to take his winnings all at once, he will get “only” 782.4 million. Whatever he chooses, however, a large part of the amount will go to the IRS.
