The redesigned train will launch in 2025
In an exclusive video produced by Dezeen, Maxime d’Angeac – known for his collaborations with Hermès and Guerlain – reveals how the redesign of the iconic Orient Express aims to create “a new embassy of French luxury”.
The first Orient Express was designed 140 years ago by Belgian civil engineer Georges Nagelmackers. The only time it was redesigned was in 1924. d’Angeac’s redesign is the first in almost a century.
The redesigned train will depart in 2025 and the interiors of the carriages were shown in the ‘Orient Express Revelation’ virtual reality exhibition as part of Paris Art Week (October 17-21). The exhibit will travel to Design Miami (November 30-December 4).
“We have two versions of the Orient Express,” explains d’Angeac, in the video. “One in 1883 and an extremely famous one that you can see in James Bond and Sidney Lumet movies, which was the Orient Express 1924. Since 1924, nothing has been done, so we’ve done it all over again after 100 years,” he adds.
“This is a reinterpretation of a legendary train, the idea of which we conceived as a new embassy of French luxury, elevated by the know-how and talents of the best French artisans,” he underlines.
