The deprivation of the title of “Queen of Christmas” by Mariah Carey – who months ago applied to the competent US authorities to officially grant it – has caused a wave of anger and question: Who is Elizabeth Chan, who dared to ” block’ Mariah Carey from her (rightful) title?
Well, Elizabeth Chan exclusively performs Christmas songs, and that’s what she’s built her career on. But she is known to a small audience, in relation to Mariah, and certainly not on a global scale.
However, she filed an official objection to Mariah’s attempt to claim the title of Christmas Queen (and trademark) last March. Carey’s record label never addressed the issue, the dispute was never litigated, and thus the title was never awarded to Mariah.

Should Carey succeed in her goal, it would prevent other artists from using the phrase “Christmas Queen” on albums or merchandise.
Chan, 42, found out that Carey had applied for the patent – a move that would have hurt her own career – so she was filing the appeal.
In addition, he considers her to be the Queen of Christmas, as she was described as such by the New Yorker magazine about 5 years ago – a title which of course she happily adopted.
“Christmas is a full-time job for me. It is my life. When I was given the title of ‘Queen of Christmas,’ that was important to me,” Chan told the Wall Street Journal.
Shortly afterwards she ‘tweeted’ one user’s opinion that the title is for everyone – also posting a song of her own.
