Actor Chris Hemsworth revealed she is taking a break from acting after discovering she has an alarmingly high predisposition to Alzheimer’s disease.

The actor is currently filming his new docu-series ‘Limitless’ which, as the name suggests, involves him finding ways to push himself to the limits of his physical endurance as he explores how one can ‘make it’ greater chance of longevity.

During filming, the Thor actor underwent various genetic tests and discovered that he carries two copies of a gene that is extremely closely related to Alzheimer’s disease.

As revealed by the doctor who performed the actor’s genetic tests, only 3% of the population has this particular double copy of the gene, which increases the risk of developing the disease by 8-10%.

As he explains to Vanity Fair, this discovery prompted the actor to take some time off. “It really sparked something in me to want to take some time off. I will go home and be with my children and my wife,” he said.

Chris Hemsworth also revealed that his grandfather is currently suffering from dementia and that the disease is something that has affected his family.

The new series ‘Limitless’ is available to watch on National Geographic.
