The uncritical city of Drama welcomed this afternoon in an atmosphere of joy and euphoria its new pastor, the Most Reverend Metropolitan Dorotheos, who was enthroned with all the prescribed honors and according to the traditions of the Orthodox Church.

The new metropolitan of Drama was welcomed in the central square of Eleftheria by the mayor of the city Christodoulos Mamsakos and the overseer of the holy metropolis of Drama, metropolitan Xanthi Panteleimonas. Addressing Mr. Dorotheos, the mayor welcomed him with particularly warm words to the city and wished him all the best in his pastorate, noting that “we give you our hand for a common course for the good of our country and our people. We want you by our side. We will always be by your side. We give you our hand to take yours and to be our spiritual guide in these difficult times.”

In his opposition, Mr. Dorotheos expressed his joy and emotion for the great blessing he will have to shepherd the people of the historic and martyred city of Drama. “I humbly desire,” he underlined, “that, in addition to being a citizen of yours, you will have me in your heart as a father and brother of all without exception. I bring to my mind and heart the figures of the militant Hierarchs, as well as the sacrifices of our heroic people. I humbly hope that God will raise me up as an angel of support, ministry, close and constant proclamation of His gifts and praises. I recognize the valor and historicity of every corner of the metropolis. I look to the future so that we can agree on a common course, for a better present and future with readiness, vitality, renewal, within our greatness, our Romeness”.

Immediately afterwards, in a procession, the new pastor headed towards the metropolitan church of Isodeion of Theotokos, where his enthronement ceremony took place in the presence of the most blessed archbishop of Athens and all Greece, Ieronymos.

The enthronement speech of the new metropolitan

In his enthronement speech, the new metropolitan spoke about the relationship of modern man with God, while he presented his goals and priorities during the exercise of his pastorate.

He made special mention of the sacrifices parents make for their children, saying “I bow to the courage and the many sacrifices parents make for their children. Let children be born and come to me.” He also appealed to believers to perform good acts of charity noting “we must cultivate our mercy. Let us see our poor brothers with true love. As members of our parish. I wish that our hearts will be sweetened by our mysteries and holy services.” At the end of his speech, he thanked Metropolitan Xanthi Panteleimonas, who handled all the affairs of the metropolis until the election of the new metropolitan.

He also referred to the institution and the important role of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, as well as to his predecessor, the blessed Metropolitan of Drama Mr. Pavlos who passed away so early.

At the enthronement ceremony, the Ecumenical Patriarch was represented by the Most Reverend Metropolitan Dimitrios of Goumenissa, Axioupoleos and Polykastro, who addressed the new metropolitan.
