Tom Hanks he is simply wonderful. With classic refinement and a timeless charm. Of course, the same goes for his wife, Rita Wilsonwho together made a special appearance at the annual Governors Awards in Los Angeles.

Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson showed off their chemistry as they hit the red carpet for the event, held at the Fairmont Century Plaza in Los Angeles.

Recall that Hanks appeared in Baz Luhrmann’s biopic, “Elvis,” in which he played Colonel Tom Parker, Elvis’ longtime manager.

Since its inception in 2009, the Governors Awards have become a major red carpet stop for many Oscar nominees, and are widely regarded as the first major stop on the awards circuit.

Hanks has been nominated for an Oscar six times during his illustrious career, winning two: for best actor, for the films “Philadelphia” (1994) and “Forrest Gump” (1995).

Nominations include his performances in Big (1989), Saving Private Ryan (1999), Castaway (2001) and a Best Supporting Actor nomination for A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood (2020).

The Governors Awards is an annual event celebrating the awards presented by the Academy’s Board of Governors – the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award, the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award and the Honorary Award, according to the ceremony’s official website.

Recipients are revealed each summer prior to the November event, where they are honored at a formal dinner. This year, the Council voted to honor songwriter Diane Warren, director Peter Weir and director Euzhan Palcy.

Michael J. Fox was honored with this year’s Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award, which is given to those who have made “outstanding contributions to humanitarian causes.”
