Christmas at the Planetarium

by

“The Science of Christmas at the Eugenides Foundation” – Planetarium shows, science experiments and workshops for the festive season.

For another year, the Eugenidou Foundation, on the days of the Christmas holidays, has prepared for its young and old friends a variety of activities that combine science and technology with the magic of fairy tales and the Christmas spirit of the days. Specifically, from the beginning of December, in addition to the established program of Planetarium screenings and activities at the Science and Technology Center and the Utech Lab, its activities include the following:

New Digital Planetarium

Khrumka

On a fantastic journey through the snowy forest, little Krumka and his friends are impressed by the Northern Lights, observe the path of an asteroid and admire the constellations of the winter sky. Unique surprises await them through this exciting route! Recommended for ages 5+.

The Christmas star

What kind of star led the three wise Magi to the divine Infant of Bethlehem? Was it a meteor or a comet? Nova or supernova? Meteor or fireball? Is Kepler’s formulation valid, that it was a conjunction of planets? Why is it that no scientific theory can be confirmed or rejected until today? Taking a journey back through the past centuries, starting with the birth of the Divine Child in the poor manger of Bethlehem, the performance “The ‘Star of Christmas'” unfolds historical, as well as scientific facts through a special musical and visual spectacle. Recommended for the whole family.

Center for Science and Technology

Discovering the science of smacking. It is aimed at children 6-12 years old.

The festive science workshop will give children the opportunity to study the properties of the nature of materials (solids, liquids and gases) in a fun way, and to recognize the existence of science in their everyday lives.

Christmas Engineering Constructions (online). It spins, lights up and snows!… Aimed at children 6-12 years old.

Can I make artificial snow? How can I light a Christmas tree with an electric circuit? Children will be exposed to basic principles of Engineering in a fun way.

Oh… Christmas Tree-Bot. Build and program your own rotating Christmas tree! Recommended for ages 6-9.

This holiday season, our little friends will be building their very own spinning Christmas tree using the lego WeDo 2.0 kit. They will program their construction so that lights flash and Christmas music plays.

Xmas RoboDeer. Build your own reindeer to carry this year’s presents! Recommended for ages 9-12.

During this year’s holidays, our little friends will build their own Robotic Reindeer to carry the Christmas presents to all the houses in a sleigh.

Frozen Experiments. A science show in… cold temperatures! Recommended for ages 5+.

Do all ingredients boil at the same temperature? What happens to materials when they are at very low temperatures? Can we build a “cold” bomb? Can we make ice cream out of the fridge? Discover the answers to these questions and explore the properties of materials at… Christmas temperatures, through live experiments. Don’t forget your hat and gloves!

UTech Lab. Save Christmas. Detectives vs agents: An epic holiday adventure.

Doctor No-Christmas, allergic to the merry voices of Christmas, decided to make a mess. As the creator of the most modern gift wrapping machine, he stole the magic gear that only he knew how. Santa figured it out and rushed the Detectives to start a search to find it. But Doctor no Christmas decided to help them a little … or maybe not at all … and assigned the agents to send encrypted riddles. If the Detectives succeed and decipher them, Doctor no Christmas will get back what he took. They will make it; Will the magic of the holiday be preserved? Recommended for ages 10-13.
