With the holidays just a breath away, both you and your people will be back at the classic family tables. With minimal variations each year, these gatherings are a good occasion for families to meet. But you know very well that there are many people who do not particularly like these gatherings.
Something similar happens in the Netflix series, How to Ruin Christmas, which returns this year with its second season.
In the first season of How to Ruin Christmas, Tumi destroys her sister’s wedding
Tumi’s younger sister, Beauty, has dreamed of the perfect wedding for her and her partner. Everything goes clockwise until Tumi appears. Clearly unhappy that she has to attend this family reunion, even on Christmas day, Tumi makes a special effort to go unnoticed. She even knows that everyone treats her with suspicion and so it is not long before she is seduced once again and puts the marriage in danger.
In the new season, the wedding is replaced by a funeral
Once again, Tumi is at the center of the story. When he learned that Gogo was living with cancer, he decided to give her a day of joy and adventure. Together they go to the amusement park and get on every train that is there. In the next scene, some police officers and an ambulance pick up Gogo’s body, while Tumi’s family is already there. So you can imagine the turn of events, since Tumi is always the scapegoat of the family.
This time the episodes unfold around a funeral, which of course will take place on Christmas day.
Through How to Ruin Christmas you have the opportunity to get to know the culture of South Africa better. From homes to clothing and holiday customs, these people are often underrepresented in modern culture. But Netflix’s partnership with domestic production companies aims to change that. Series and movies like How to Ruin Christmas we hope are just the beginning.
