The man who shot her dog trainer Lady Gaga and stole her two French bulldogs in Los Angeles last year, was sentenced to 21 years in prison.

James Howard Jackson, one of three men involved in the violent robbery of dog trainer Ryan Fisher, has pleaded not guilty to the charges. The verdict came months after the arrest of Jackson, who was mistakenly released from prison in April due to a clerical error.

Fisher was seriously injured in the attack and appeared in court on Monday.

“It’s hard to believe it’s almost two years since I took Asia, Koji and Gustav out for an evening walk when in one moment I suddenly found myself fighting with everything I had to protect these dogs from they steal them. However, it was not enough: I was beaten, strangled, shot and left to die, bleeding on a pavement. Koji and Gustav had disappeared.”

Authorities said that on February 24, 2021, Jackson, Jaylin White and Lafayette Whaley were walking around Los Angeles, “looking for French bulldogs,” an expensive breed that can sell for thousands of dollars. They met Fisher with the pop star’s three dogs near Sunset Boulevard.

The men rushed the famous singer’s dog trainer, shouting at him to give up, as they grabbed the animals’ leashes. The dog trainer hit them when a man tried to choke him.

During the struggle, officials said, Jackson shot him with a semi-automatic handgun, allowing the three to get away with two of the dogs, while a third remained hidden in some bushes. Fisher was left covered in blood on the sidewalk.

Fisher was heard on a camera nearby shouting: “Oh my God! I’ve been shot!”, “Help me!” and “I’m bleeding from my chest!”.

After the robbery, Lady Gaga offered $500,000 to whoever had her dogs. The dogs were returned several days later by a woman, who was also charged with the crime.

Two months after the attack, five people were arrested in connection with the incident, including Jackson, who authorities later accidentally released.
