Focusing on Evinolimni, this wonderful artificial lake of Evinos, we travel around it, in order to get to know some of the villages that surround it and create with it the most special “painting” of Mountainous Nafpaktia. The perimeter of the lake is 32 kilometers and through a huge tunnel of 30 kilometers, its water ends up in the also artificial lake of Mornos, the main source of water in the whole of Attica.
Perched on the northwestern slopes of Fteropyrgos, in mountainous Nafpaktia, at an altitude of 1170 meters and only 15 kilometers from Ano Chora, is a stone-built village of rare natural beauty. Until 1927 it bore the name Koutoulista, while it was renamed Kryoneria due to the endless water resources that exist in and around the village.
Towering firs, chestnuts, as well as broad-leaved plane trees, surround Kryoneria in the most beautiful way. The green landscape combined with the stone-built houses with tiled roofs, the fountains and the all-round square in the center of the village, are several of the reasons to explore it.
Through Kryoneria several routes start for walks and not only. Routes in the forest, routes in gorges, routes in waterfalls, routes with a view and in general routes in the wonderful nature around the rejuvenating lake of Evinos which is located at a short distance from the village.
In mountainous Nafpaktia, just outside the village of Kryoneria, there is an amazing site called Thesi Pergari. The route through the forest could in no way predispose the visitor to what he will face when he gets there.
The small observatory is built right on the edge of the cliff, and from there the impressive Evinolimni looks magical, while it is as if you are seeing it through the airplane window. Evinos river looks like a small stream and the immensity of Nafpaktia’s peaks dare to compete with it for who will emerge victorious in your eyes…
