Last weekend, Arcade Fire gave their first concert since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic at a corporate event in Las Vegas for a cryptocurrency video game company.
The Canadian rockers last appeared in public in February 2020, just a month before the first wave of lockdowns.
How they got to the #IntoTheGalaverse conference remains a mystery, although it is possible that a small fortune in the blockchain was transferred in their direction.
While not touring, Arcade Fire prepared the studio during the quarantine. They released their new song “Generation A” and also recorded what lead band Winn Butler called “two or three” albums with new material.
Maroon 5, Billy Idol, Kings Of Leon, Snoop Dogg, Alice Cooper and Steve Aoki also appeared at the event, which was described as “a thrilling community event to celebrate the Gala Games digital universe.” The company is described as a leader in “slot games, blockchain and NFT games”.
Footage from the event shows Win Butler and Regina Sassani playing Arcade Fire songs, such as “My Body Is A Cage” from the 2007 “Neon Bible” and “Everything Now” from their latest self-titled album, which was released in 2017.
