Research shows that Logic’s song “1-800-273-8255” in 2017 helped reduce teen suicide rates.
The song, which is titled the telephone number of the US National Suicide Prevention Line (NSPL) and its video depicts how one feels when one wants to commit suicide.
A new study by the British Medical Association (BMJ) reveals that Logic’s song was “the broadest and most persistent suicide prevention message directly linked to a story of hope and recovery”.

The video of the song depicts the problems faced by a high school student who struggles with his sexuality. He is bullied at school to the point of committing suicide, but he controls himself by calling a suicide hotline to talk to someone.
When American rapper Logic – whose real name is Sir Robert Bryson Hall II – performed the song at the MTV VMAs 2017 and the 2018 Grammy Awards, according to the study, the US National Suicide Prevention Line recorded an increase 6.9% in calls, while the suicide rate decreased at the age of 10 – 19 years by 5.5%.
The song, featuring Khalid and Alessia Cara, has been streamed to over 400,000,000 people worldwide.
“Knowing that music affected people’s lives really inspired me to write the song,” Logic told CNN.
“We did it with our hearts to try to help people. “And the fact that it did happen is shocking.”
