Noah Centineo drops out of high school and becomes fearless lawyer in new series

by

Noah Centineo, 26, considers himself a fearful person. Even so, he jumped off a bridge in Vienna, Austria, during the recording of “Recruit”, a series that premieres on Friday (16) on Netflix. “It’s very normal to feel afraid of doing things, I think everyone is”, he comments in an interview with F5🇧🇷

However, the American actor —who was recently in Brazil to promote his new work at CCXP— is one of those who doesn’t let himself be paralyzed. “Personally, I love doing these stunts and stuff like that,” he says. “When I was young, I climbed mountains, I always loved doing stupid things (laughs).”

In the series, he gives life to the young lawyer Owen Hendricks, who has just graduated and starts working at the CIA (the American intelligence agency). He is tasked with helping a prisoner who plans to expose the institution’s secrets unless she is cleared of a crime. In the course of the plot, he gets involved in several conflicts.

This is the first time that Centineo is playing someone who is no longer at school. The actor says it was very natural to give life to a character closer to his age. “I didn’t have to physically prepare or anything since Owen doesn’t know what he’s doing,” he explains.

“I was doing things as they appeared. The only thing I really had to study was the law, norms, terms and different contexts”, he comments. He says he was surprised that the profession has so much to do with what “is happening in the world and how it affects our daily lives.” “It was just uncomfortable running in a suit and tie (laughs).”

Centineo has been trying to break away from the image of the internet sweetheart, as he came to be called after several romantic comedies — he broke out as teenager Peter Kavisky in the “To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before” trilogy. More recently, he also gave life to the character Smasher-Atom in the movie “Black Adam”, starring Dwayne Johnson.

“These two productions [‘Recruta’ e ‘Adão Negro’] definitely represent a new phase in my career”, he evaluates. “They are new, fresh productions. It’s a new step of many that I want to take.”
