The British royal family’s Christmas party will have three absences this year

by

With the death of Queen Elisabeth II, last September, some royal traditions are being, if not abandoned, “loosened”. Members of the royal family now feel less pressure to attend certain conventions, such as the Christmas party. Celebrated regularly at Sandringham House, London, it should not be attended by Harry and Meghan this year.

The festivities, now promoted by King Charles and Queen Consort Camilla, include one more traditional moment (there are several): the walk to church on Christmas Day. Harry and Meghan should also skip this part. According to the biographer of the royal family Angela Levin, the two were invited by the king to join the family at the end of the year, but the trend is that they refuse the call. Already the Daily Mail claims that Harry and Meghan were even invited by Charles. Kate Middleton and Prince William, the future heir to the throne, will participate in all the celebrations.

The bombastic documentary about Harry and Meghan, released before Christmas, helped to sour the mood in the royals, and this would also be one of the reasons for the couple to choose not to attend the family reunion, at least for now. According to the writer, the two are afraid of the reaction of their relatives to the Netflix production and prefer to keep (even more) distance, at least until the dust settles.
