World Cup: Elon Musk goes to the final, posted in real time on Twitter and causes controversy

by

Elon Musk spent the early afternoon of this Sunday at the Usail Stadium, in Qatar, where France and Argentina played in the World Cup final. The South African billionaire, owner of Tesla and CEO of Twitter, used his social network to announce his presence. “At the World Cup now,” he wrote in the caption of a video recorded at the opening ceremony.

Musk seemed willing to put into practice what he asked his followers hours before: “Follow the World Cup on Twitter”. Argentina’s first goal was then transmitted by him, with excitement. “What a great goal from Argentina!”, He posted, with the country’s flags. There were people who found him too enthusiastic: “It was a penalty goal, man”, commented a follower.

Dressed in a frayed green T-shirt à la Volodimir Zelenskiy, Musk greeted fans of both teams in the VIP area where he watched the game and fans of the billionaire said they were impressed by his simplicity. “He IS a man of the people,” wrote one admirer.

Others considered that his presence there had commercial reasons. “In search of new investors”:

With Musk’s posts, many people remembered his “anti-doxxing” law, which prohibits real-time sharing of location data. “So if I post here that Elon Musk is currently at the Usail stadium in Qatar, can I get banned for saying his location in real time?”, asked a follower. The GPS coordinates of the exact place where Musk was then began to be posted.

Apparently oblivious to this discussion, Musk celebrated the record of tweets in France’s equalizing goal: 24,400 per second. “A record!”, cheered the CEO of Twitter, which has 120 million followers.
