The 43-year-old actress, however, found solidarity in her famous friends Gwyneth Paltrow and Reese Witherspoon

Kate Hudson spoke of her pain when she saw her eldest child leave home for university.

The actress spoke candidly about adjusting to family life without her son, Ryder, who moved across the country to start college earlier this year.

“Ah, it’s so hard,” she said Kate Hudson. “All you want is for your child to be happy, but when I’m in Los Angeles and I go to the coffee machine in the morning and I don’t hear his voice — it’s big,” she told Willie Geist in an interview on “Sunday Today.”

However, the 43-year-old found solidarity in her famous friends Gwyneth Paltrow and Reese Witherspoon.

“Our kids went to school together,” she said of Paltrow, mother of 18-year-old student Apple Martin.

The famous actress spoke about the emotions she experienced after her son left the family home, joking: “I’m fine, I’m fine! However, inside I feel a void.”

As well as her eldest son, Kate also has a four-year-old daughter, Rani, with her fiance Danny Fujikawa, and 11-year-old Bingham, with her ex-partner, Muse frontman Matt Bellamy.

Having three children from three different fathers works for the actress anyway. “You can have a great time with an ex because you’re really just focusing on loving your child,” she said.
