The ad was condemned by Alexandra Gucci Zarini, great-granddaughter of Gucci’s founder
A Gucci ad starring him Harry Styles has come under fire after some questioned the appropriateness of the childish images featured in the campaign.
The reactions about the advertising of the campaign “HA HA HA HA” by Gucci, which comes just weeks after similar criticisms leveled at its recent campaigns Balenciaga with children, they focus on the settings and clothing choices, with the famous singer posing next to a toddler-sized mattress while wearing a teddy bear t-shirt.
In one photo, the “As It Was” singer stands in front of a small mattress with his hands in his pockets.
“A performance piece starring Harry Styles and the Gucci collection HA HA HA HA. Discover the campaign,” Gucci captioned the photos in a recent Instagram post.
On social media, many users wrote that the ad campaign includes inappropriate images, which are similar to those of Balenciaga, which featured children posing with teddy bears dressed in BDSM-inspired accessories.
Others noted that both Gucci and Balenciaga are owned by the owner of luxury goods conglomerate ‘The Kering Group’.
“What on earth is going on here? Wake up people!” one person commented under Gucci’s recent post, while another said: “Why is there a toddler bed in this? Why the t-shirt with the teddy bear?’
The ad was also condemned by Alexandra Gucci Zarini, great-granddaughter of Gucci founder Guccio Gucci.
“Why create a ‘performance piece’ with the mattress of a toddler and a grown man?” Zarini wrote on Instagram last week, where she also shared photos of Styles in the campaign. “My concerns are that there seems to be a common ideology across all Kering Fashion Houses.”
Zarini specifically founded the foundation “The Alexandra Gucci Children’s Foundation”, which fights against the sexual abuse of children.
The backlash over Gucci’s campaign comes after Balenciaga was embroiled in controversy over two of its recent ads. In addition to the ad campaign featuring children posing with the brand’s teddy bear bags, Balenciaga also released an ad featuring Supreme Court documents dealing with child pornography.
The company has since apologized for both ads, noting that it strongly condemns child abuse.
