Historian and speaker Leandro Karnal, 59, hit back at criticism on social media after revealing his marriage to singer Vitor Fadul, 27. Karnal posted a photo on Instagram with her husband on Friday (6) that triggered a series of attacks on the couple. The historian countered homophobic speeches and comments that disapproved of the age difference between the two, which is 32 years old.
“You look like a son”, Maclovia Miranda’s comment read, to which Karnal replied: “no problem, you look like my aunt”. “Cabeça Branca, owner of the speedboat (only on the young ones)”, wrote Jehovah Fernandes, referring to the song “Cabeça Branca”, by singer Tierry. Karnal joined in the joke: “it’s not my case, no white threads”.
The historian also countered criticism involving religion. “Sodom and Gomorrah would be jealous of us! Shocked!, said a comment to which Karnal replied: “Jesus would be ashamed of you”. Another internet user, Junior Freitas, commented: “May God have mercy on your life”. who is an atheist, soon wrote back: “If I believed in one, I would at least ask not to go to a Paradise near you”.
Most of the comments on the publication, however, were supportive of the couple or critical of those who saw the relationship as a problem. “My only surprise is knowing that Karnal likes people. I thought he didn’t like anyone in general. Love has to be celebrated”, joked Jackson Cavalcanti. “Gossipers are lying down and rolling with your post. Happiness should be treated as a normal thing”, said Angela Mello. “Happiness bothers a lot,” replied Karnal.
Celebrities also appeared among the comments to show affection and support. “You beautiful ones,” said lawyer and political commentator Gabriela Prioli. “Congratulations to both of you for the tenderness that unites you. Long live love”, wrote Monja Coen. “I love you,” commented actress Bruna Lombardi.
The publication with the photo of the two has already reached about 400,000 likes and 30,000 comments on Instagram. “Florence, the day of the epiphany. I enter the second week of the vacation trip with my husband, Vitor. Love is a gift and a conquest. We enter the fourth year of living together. I never thought that personal life was very relevant for others. However, there seems to be a moment when not declaring it can seem like agreement with prejudices. I am a happy person and love is part of it!”, Karnal wrote in the caption when assuming the relationship on social networks.
