Russell Banks, author of ‘Sweet Destiny’, has breathed his last at his home in Keene, upstate New York
The award-winning American author Russell Banksone of the great names of modern prose, known for the depiction of the working class in his works, died on Saturday at the age of 82, after a long battle with cancer.
The author of “Sweet Destiny” breathed his last at his home in Keene, upstate New York, as announced by author Joyce Carol Oates.

“His entire body of work has been sensational,” he tweeted.
The novelist and poet Russell Banks in his books narrated the difficulties of the working class, through heroes who fight against poverty, drug addiction, the problems they face because of their race or class. He was honored with the “John Dos Passos” award in 1995 and with many other distinctions.
Two of his books were taken to the cinema.
He was married to poet Chase Twitchell and had four children from previous marriages.
