50 Cent Called Depression ‘Luxury’

by

“Where I come from, you can’t afford to be depressed,” the famous rapper said

The American rapper, whose real name is Curtis Jackson, spoke on the radio show “Big Boy’s Neighborhood” about how depression was not something that crossed the minds of residents in his neighborhood.

“I think depression is a luxury. Where I come from, you can’t afford to be depressed,” said the rapper, actor and businessman.

Jackson hails from the South Jamaica neighborhood of Queens, New York.

“You’ve got to pay the bills, right? So you have to go to work,” he continued. “You have to get up, you have to go do what you have to do. There are people right now who are at work and don’t feel like they are there. But they have responsibilities,” he noted.

He acknowledged that there are people who work with depression and argued that a mental health crisis should not stop someone from working.

“When these guys are down and they just decide they’re not going to do anything, I’m like, ‘Where are they doing that?'” he said. “I think the things you go through make you who you are,” he added.
