HBO released the first episode of the series on Sunday, January 15 “The Last of Us” and to put it simply, it becomes a mess.
The series immediately became the number one topic of discussion on social media, with viewers declaring themselves… crazy, managing to outdo even the NFL in the United States and become the number one trend on Twitter. On IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes, the fan rating also hits the top.
The series is based on the PlayStation video game of the same name ‘Naughty Dog’. It is worth noting that this particular game has won more than 240 awards, is one of the best-selling PlayStation 3 games and is considered by many gamers to be one of the best video games of all time.
The nine-episode first season debuted on HBO and will also be available to stream in 4K on HBO Max.
The story takes place 20 years after the destruction of modern civilization. Joel, a hardened survivor, is hired to smuggle Ellie, a 14-year-old girl, out of a strict zone. But what starts as a simple job soon becomes a brutal and heartbreaking journey as the two must cross the US and rely on each other to survive.
The cast includes Pedro Pascal as Joel, Bella Ramsey as Ellie, Gabriel Luna as Tommy, Anna Torv as Tess, Nico Parker as Sarah, Murray Bartlett as Frank, Nick Offerman as Bill and Melanie Lynskey as Kathleen and Storm Reid as Riley.
Rounding out the rest of the cast are Merle Dandridge as Marlene, Jeffrey Pierce as Perry, Lamar Johnson as Henry, Keivonn Woodard as Sam, Graham Greene as Marlon and Elaine Miles as Florence.
Ashley Johnson and Troy Baker, who voiced Ellie and Joel in the video games, appear in the series, but as different characters.
Writers and executive producers are Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann. The series is a co-production with Sony Pictures Television. The production companies are PlayStation Productions, Word Games, The Mighty Mint and Naughty Dog.
