The last intervention, named “Master Pieces”, are representations of masterpieces belonging to the collection of the famous Art Institute of Chicago.

Street artist Jim Bachor decided to beautify cracks and potholes on Chicago’s sidewalks with colorful mosaics.

His latest intervention, under the name “Master Pieces”, are representations of masterpieces belonging to the collection of the famous Art Institute of Chicago.

Speaking to My Modern Met about the source of inspiration for the show, he explained: “It’s about juxtaposition. Sometimes when I start a new series of puddle art I like to contrast subjects for intellectuals with puddle art for the uneducated (like my series with patterns from brands like Burberry and Gucci).

The “Master Pieces” series does the same, taking details from famous, iconic artworks from the Art Institute of Chicago’s collection and placing them on the dirt road.”

Some of the most recognizable works in this series are details from Edward Hopper’s ‘Nighthawks’, from Grant Wood’s famous ‘American Gothic’ – considered by many to be the epitome of Americanness – and from the almost universally known ‘ Bedroom’ by Vincent van Gogh.

Included in the series is a mosaic with text that reads: “The Art Institute of Chicago should fund this art.”
