Tiago Leifert receives racist comments for being Jewish, after a fight with Ícaro Silva

by

After a discussion with actor Ícaro Silva, 34, through publications on social networks, former BBB presenter Tiago Leifert, 41, was the target of racist comments that associated his behavior with the fact of being Jewish.

“For free, Tiago Leifert (Jew) even loves pork,” wrote a Twitter user. “Leifert sealing it like a good Jew. Man, I’m disgusted with this filthy race,” tweeted another.

One profile gained considerable prominence when it published: “On the controversy with James Leifert: Jew, right? (Sorry for the nice Jews I know. That’s not up to you).” Both the tweet and the profile were deleted by the user after the bad repercussion.

Some netizens were against the comments. “I didn’t even know that Tiago Leifert is Jewish, but there are people who make a point of knowing just to be anti-Semitic,” he wrote in a profile. “Disagreeing and criticizing James Leifert is normal and healthy. Attacking him for being a Jew is not. Please stop normalizing anti-Semitism,” said another user.

The conflict between the actor and the presenter started after Ícaro Silva published, on Monday (20), that he considered Big Brother Brasil a “mediocre entertainment” program and that he would not participate in the next edition.

In response to the actor, Leifert claimed that Silva was being arrogant and criticizing a program that supposedly paid his salary. “By the way, not only did we not harm you, we probably paid your salary on that last trip!”, wrote the former BBB presenter.

Many artists criticized Leifert’s stance and supported Icarus. Therefore, the presenter stopped following ex-BBBs who agreed with the actor in the discussion.

The journalist has Jewish ancestry on the part of his father, lawyer Gilberto Leifert. He has already talked about his Jewish origins in several interviews and even brought elements of the tradition in his marriage to Daiana Garbin, in 2012.

In a statement, Conib (Confederação Israelita do Brasil) expressed its solidarity with the journalist “victim of racist attacks because of his Jewish origins. Racism is an evil that, left unpunished, not only causes suffering to its victims, but also provokes injustice and conflicts. Conib will take the appropriate measures so that racism is always punished in Brazil, as determined by our Constitution.”

Until the publication of this text, the presenter did not comment on the attacks.
