Five of the leading theater groups of the Central Macedonia Region, which will participate in this year’s “Comedy Festival”
Breaths of laughter will be offered in the next period by amateur actors, who will go on stage to present the plays they have prepared to the public of Thessaloniki.
These are five of the leading theater groups of the Region of Central Macedonia, which will participate in this year’s “Comedy Festival”, which is organized by the Culture Center of the Region of Central Macedonia in collaboration with the vice-mayor of Culture of the municipality of Kordelio-Evosmos.
The Comedy Festival is taking place this year for the sixth year, it has free admission and a charitable character. “The Cultural Center of the Region of Central Macedonia has been organizing theater festivals in recent years, in which only amateur theater groups from our Region participate. We believe very much in amateur theater, because it is what makes the flaws in life a priority on the board, teaches cooperation and collective effort, gives knowledge and self-awareness”, the president of the Culture Center of the Central Macedonia Region Anna told the Athens/Macedonian News Agency Mykonos. The curtain of the festival opens next Thursday, January 26, with the performance “Ande” by Afroditis Ioannou and Ioanna Katsaros from the Theater Group “Dithyrambos ex amax“, of the Theatrical Association of Teachers and Kindergarten Teachers of the Prefecture of Thessaloniki.
The following day, the Lagadas Adult Theater Group of Panagiotis Michaelidis will present the performance “Horns, trumpets and … plates” by Dario Fo.
“We have been working on this particular show for years. The pandemic came and interrupted us, but then we continued on the same project. In fact, at least two of our members had to leave for serious – pleasant, reasons, but in the end we ended up completing it”, says Panagiotis Michaelidis, who created this group twenty years ago, and some of the members they remain the same here to this day. “We are happy to participate in the festival, because we like to offer our work to help the causes of non-profit companies. We’ve done this with all the previous shows we’ve put up, which is about seventeen“, he added.
“Romeo and Juliet” by Bost, is the play chosen to stage on the 28th of the month by the Studio Ergon Theater Group, a group that primarily declares itself to be a family. According to the group manager Monica Aivazoglou, its members have a particular weakness for Bost. “We like it because it’s always up-to-date and above all because it allows us to put our own stuff in there. So through this …learning with the text, we try to produce a result that first of all satisfies ourselves and of course the world that is watching us. After all, theater works like psychotherapy and especially for people who are not paid by it“, he said characteristically.
Next up on Sunday 29/01 are Carlo Goldeni’s “Farmers” translated by Ioulias Tsiakiris from the Theater Group “Aproleptoi” of the Filyros Environment and Quality of Life Association “O DRYOHOS”.
The festival closes on January 30 with the performance “The Ladies of the 6th Floor”, by the Theater Group “3 and the Cuckoos” of the SourLiBoom Artist Group.
“From these performances, our audience definitely benefits, but also the participants themselves, those we usually call amateur actors. The latter rehearse dozens of hours, put their soul into the performances and with cooperation, camaraderie but also with a sense of responsibility, present us the result of their efforts. We owe them respect and our warmest applause”, pointed out Mrs. Mykoniou.
The 6th Comedy Festival will take place at the “MIKIS THEODORAKIS” Theater
(Multifunctional Center of the Municipality of Kordelio Evosmou, Paratsikoglou 1, Eleftherio-Kordelio), while all five performances start at 20:00. Entry is free, but optionally, instead of a ticket, non-perishable food, stationery, detergents and personal hygiene items will be collected, in favor of the “Ladies’ Benevolent Sisterhood of Thessaloniki”.
