Denzel Washington has decided to sit in the director’s chair for the 4th time and so in the new year we will have the pleasure to see the A Journal for Jordan in cinemas. In a film very different from what we are used to today, Washington is based on a true story and finds its protagonist in the person of Michael B. Jordan.
The film is based on Dana Canedy’s autobiography released in 2008 entitled A Journal for Jordan: A Story of Love and Honor
In the film, Dana meets Charles in the late 1990s. She works as a successful journalist for the New York Times, while Charles is a devoted military man. This is what makes her quite reluctant towards him. Having grown up with a veteran father, she knows very well the sacrifices one needs to make for this profession. However, she finally decides to give her relationship with Charles a chance.
The two begin to get to know each other better, try the long-distance relationship for a while and finally decide to get engaged and start a family. When Dana became pregnant in 2004, Charles was called up to serve on the Iraq war front. She even expected that something like this would happen, so she had an idea. Before leaving, he gives Charles a diary where he can write down everything his son would like to know about him one day.

Charles spent nearly eight months in Iraq and returned to meet his son for the first time. In the two weeks they spent together he tried to make up for all the lost time. Of course, during these months he had lived long enough to fill more than 200 pages with stories, tips and stories about his son.
When Charles returned to Iraq, the tragic event happened. She and two other soldiers were killed in a bombing raid in 2006. So Dana would have to learn to live alone and raise her son as best she could. This later motivated her to write a book and share with the world her love for Charles and everything he left her with his diary.
A romantic drama that does not fit anxiety and spoilers
The plot is quite clear and the true story behind the film is well known. What finally wins you over in the film is not so much the anxiety about what will happen in the end, but the unsurpassed interpretations of the two protagonists who are full of love, hope and appetite for life.
