Kanye West: “Eats” door from Australia due to anti-Semitic comments

Education Secretary Jason Clare condemned Ye’s “appalling” anti-Semitic comments about Hitler and the Holocaust

There is a serious possibility that Kanye West will not enter Australia because of anti-Semitic comments he made in the past, according to a government minister.

It is understood the rapper – who now goes by the name Ye – was planning to visit the country to meet the family of his partner Bianca Censori, who grew up in Melbourne.

Education Secretary Jason Clare condemned Ye’s “appalling” anti-Semitic comments about Hitler and the Holocaust, saying others who had made similar comments had been denied visas.

“People like that, who have applied for visas to come to Australia in the past, have been refused,” Clare told Channel Nine. “I expect if he applies he will have to go through the same process and answer the same questions they did.”

In recent months, Ye has made a number of anti-Semitic comments, including glorifying Hitler, tweeting an image of a swastika and denying the Holocaust.

Opposition Leader Peter Dutton said that decision rested with the government. “His anti-Semitic comments are disgraceful, his behavior is disgusting,” he told 3AW radio.

“He is not a person of good character and the minister has the ability to stop someone of bad character from entering our country.”

Peter Wertheim, co-chief executive of the Jewish Council of Australia, met with officials on Tuesday to argue for the musician’s ban. “We had a nice hearing,” Wertheim said.

“We have argued that this individual does not meet certain conditions for entry into the country and that it would be in the national interest not to grant him a visa, and we set out our reasons in detail in this letter.”
