The presenter Glória Maria, who died of cancer at the age of 73, leaves two daughters adopted in 2009: Maria, 15, and Laura, 14. The adoption took place during a season she spent in Bahia and lasted 11 months.
The presenter went to do volunteer work at an orphanage and was first enchanted by Maria. Afterwards, she also had strong feelings for Laura, not knowing that they were both biological sisters.
However, being a mother was never a priority for Gloria before finding the girls. Until then, her idea was to work and dedicate herself to her craft, since she always traveled a lot and practically never stopped at home. But everything changed in 2009.
Gloria was a sincere mother. Through social media, she talked about motherhood and her challenges. In one of these outbursts, she published an image with the girls during a trip that the three of them took.
“That’s beautiful, isn’t it? But it has the ‘B side’ [risos]! Fight. They get sick on the boat, they fight for mom. Jealousy. They complain about the excessive heat, the strong wind, the longing for their friends who stayed in Brazil. They don’t like to wake up early. But they don’t want the holidays to end,” wrote the presenter.
“How does a single mother manage all this? In a boat with them that swim like little fish – and I don’t know how to swim! Always trying to learn to live. But it’s not easy. Remember that this space belongs to the real Gloria Maria. There’s no world here wonderful or lies. Just real life,” he wrote at the time.
The publication earned comments and praise from celebrities such as Angélica Huck, Fiorella Mattheis, Isabella Fiorentino and Ana Furtado.
