Vassilis Kostas, an accomplished lute player, despite his young age, proves the “magnitude” of his talent by winning a nomination for a Grammy award.

As a key member of the group “Global Messengers” founded by award-winning jazz pianist Danilo Perez, he is nominated with his recent album “Crisalida” in the Best Latin Jazz Album category.

Born in Ioannina, Vassilis Kostas as a tireless “worker” of the lute seeks, based on his innovative approaches, ways to combine the tools of jazz improvisation with the traditional elements of his musical roots through the systematic study of both musical worlds.

He is a graduate of the graduate program of the Berklee Global Jazz Institute in Boston, where he studied with a full scholarship, after completing the undergraduate program at the same college, the jazz guitar diploma at the Philippo Nakas Conservatory and also received his bachelor’s degree at Aristotle’s Department of Philosophy and Pedagogy University.

He has performed at Carnegie Hall, Montreal Jazz Festival, London Jazz Festival and Panama Jazz Festival having collaborated with Petrolouka Chalkias on their duet album

“The Soul of Epirus” but also as a soloist with the Chatterbird Chamber Orchestra presenting his work “Kalesma” at the Parthenon Museum in Nashville, United States.

He is the owner of two important awards for his contribution to the spread of Continental music and the lute in America: the Forty Under 40 Award from the Greek American Foundation of New York and the Artist Fellowship in the Traditional Arts from the Official State of Massachusetts.
