In an excerpt from the new Harry Potter special, which celebrates 20 years of the saga, actor Daniel Radcliffe tells how it was growing up recording the films as the title character. He and other cast members attended the HBO Max meeting that opens on December 31st.
Now 32 years old, Radcliffe lived Harry from 12 to 22, and had many important life experiences on set. “My first kiss was with someone from here, my first girlfriends were from here,” revealed the actor.
The Brit did not reveal the names of the girls he was referring to. But on stage, Harry Potter’s first kiss was with Hogwarts student Cho Chang, played by Katie Leung. “It all started somewhere on the set of [Harry] Potter,” summarized Daniel.
The actor also clarified that he has no problem talking about the fantasy saga that defined his career. “I will always be happy to talk about it. I think people expect me not to want to talk about it, but it would be like someone never talking about their childhood or adolescence,” he explained.
“Every part of my life is connected to Potter and Leavesden,” he said, referring to the Warner Bros. studio complex. in England, where most of the feature films are filmed. “Everyone says things like, ‘You grew up on the movie screen.’ Well, yes and no. We also matured in private, we only did that on a movie set, and together, which is bizarre.”
Radcliffe even joked about an unpleasant part of spending so many years on the same film project. “Every year after finishing a movie, [produtores] they said: ‘don’t cut your hair during the holidays, we’ll cut it when you get back, and we’ll decide what to do,’ he recalled.
“So me and Rupert [Grint, ator de Ron Weasley] we grew our hair neatly for months, and when we came back they were like, “It’s great!” laughed the artist. “And then we’re like, ‘no no no. You’re not going to leave us like this! We’re going to be teenagers and date girls in this movie. Like, you can’t, it’s not going to be like this, are you?'”
“And we were pretty devastated when we realized it was, yes,” he joked.
