Israeli strikes in southern Lebanon killed at least one person and wounded seven others on Thursday, with the Israeli military saying it had targeted the Hezbollah movement and its allies but instead the country’s president denouncing strikes against “civil facilities”.

The Lebanese Ministry of Health reported that one person was killed in a strike in the city Smither (east). Another was injured in Bnaafulin Saida district (southwest) and six more in Ansarin the region Nabatea (south), according to the same source.

The president Joseph Aoun emphasized that the Israeli raids hit “political facilities”condemning what it called a new violation of the ceasefire agreement signed last year.

“Continued Israeli attacks are part of a systematic policy aimed at destroying productive infrastructure, hindering the recovery of the economy and undermining national stability under false pretenses of security”pointed out Mr. Aun.

The Israeli armed forces said in a statement that “hit Hezbollah terrorist infrastructure (…) in Mazraat Sinai district, southern Lebanon.”

They added that they hit facilities used by Green Without Borders (“green without borders”), a US-sanctioned non-governmental organization that Israel claims “operates as a political cover to hide Hezbollah’s presence in an area bordering Israel.”

Israel has been shelling Lebanon almost daily in recent months, despite a cease-fire agreement that took effect nearly a year ago, in November 2024, after more than a year of hostilities with the movement Hezbollah, adjacent to Iran, which turned into two months of open war.
