The occupancy rate in hotels for the three days of the New Year, in the popular destinations of the country, is 85% -90%, according to what the president of the Panhellenic Hoteliers Federation (POX), Grigoris Tassios, states. Based on the reservations, most visitors choose to say goodbye in 2021 and welcome in 2022 in the prefecture of Ioannina, Pelion, mountainous Arcadia, Arachova, Loutra Pozar and in the cities where Christmas theme parks have been set up.
Proportionate to the fullness of the three days of the New Year was the picture in the hotels and the three days of Christmas, while in contrast to the Epiphany the reservations do not exceed 60% as travelers are literally waiting at the last minute for their reservation, according to what Mr. Tassios, in an interview on the radio station of APE-MPE “Agency 104.9 Fm”.
The holiday bookings come from Greeks, since due to the pandemic and the measures, the percentage of incoming tourists does not exceed 5%. “During the holidays of 2019, the incoming tourism was 30%. In Thessaloniki there were visitors from the Balkans, from Serbia, Romania, Bulgaria, but also from Israel, and in Athens from European countries. In northern Greece, Kavala and Alexandroupolis were also in the “game”. “This year, the incoming tourist does not exceed 5% and this is due to the pandemic and the measures that apply everywhere”, underlined Mr. Tassios.
The president of POX noted that in 2021 “closes in hotels with a fullness of about 50% -60% compared to 2019” and on the occasion of the months following the holidays, he added that “a dialogue has been opened with the government for support measures . The most important thing is the energy that was launched and it does not help to make better prices “.
Mr. Tassios, however, expressed the optimism that in the new year things will go better from April onwards: “2021 was a milestone year in terms of our survival. We showed the dynamics and unity of the industry. We opened in May with full observance of the health protocols and the people were happy. We are entering 2022 with an optimism, we hope that it will go better from April onwards “.
