A new production by Birmingham Royal Ballet entitled “Black Sabbath – The Ballet” announced Carlos Acosta, director of the Royal Ballet.
Billed as “the world’s first heavy metal dance experience”, the performance will be in three acts and will include eight Black Sabbath tracks, including “Paranoid, War Pigs, Orchid and Sabbath Bloody Sabbath” in new arrangements by Royal Ballet Sinfonia, but also new compositions inspired by the songs of the legendary band.
“Black Sabbath are probably Birmingham’s biggest export, the most famous cultural entity ever to emerge from the city, so it was only natural that I found the idea of a collaboration between what most people think of as everything appealing to me. more unlikely to happen,” said British ballet star Carlos Acosta.
His goal when he took up his new duties in 2020 was to attract more viewers to the shows with contemporary themes.
The band’s co-founder and guitarist, Tony Iommi, stated that “I never imagined that Black Sabbath could go with ballet, but it sounds cool! I can’t wait to see how this all plays out.”
The show will open at the Birmingham Hippodrome on September 23, according to the Guardian.
