As the actor said before him, Paul Walker had auditioned for the role of Superman
Brendan Fraser he almost played his part Superman, though he was never sure if he wanted to. As a guest on “The Howard Stern Show,” host Howard Stern reminded the actor of the reports that wanted him to take on the role of Superman.
“Everyone was reading about Superman. Again, they were trying, maybe, 6 or 7 guys in 2002, 2003,” Fraser said in response to Stern if he lost the role “through his hands.”
As the actor said before him, Paul Walker had auditioned for the role of Superman, while as he said he was unsure if he could be “faithful” to the iconic role of the superhero.
“Of course it was an amazing life-changing opportunity, but I had to come to terms with, ‘OK, say you took the job to be the Man of Steel. It’s going to be written on your tombstone. Are you okay with that?’ You will forever be known as the Man of Steel,” Frazier told Stern.
Fraser admitted he thought differently about the role because he knew “I didn’t want to be known for just one thing, because I’ve prided myself on diversity throughout my professional life.”
Asked how he felt when he didn’t win the role — Brandon Routh eventually played Superman in 2006’s “Superman Returns” — the actor said the studio “probably” realized he couldn’t be committed to the role.
“I felt disappointed that I had an amazing opportunity that didn’t materialize,” the actor said, but added that the cast probably realized he wasn’t 100% committed to the role.
