The first season of “Spartacus” TV series started in 2010 starring Andy Whitfield
A new cycle of the “Spartacus” series is being developed by its creator, Steven S. Deknight, on behalf of the Starz network.
According to “Deadline”, the drama series will tell new journeys of the iconic characters of “Spartacus” with a new story of “betrayal and blood under the menacing shadow of Rome”.
“Together with our colleagues at Starz and Lionsgate we will create something truly unique for the next chapter of this epic story,” Deknight said in a statement.
The first cycle of the “Spartacus” TV series began in 2010 with Andy Whitfield as the lead actor. However, during the episodes he was diagnosed with cancer and 18 months later he passed away at the age of 39.
The producers, shocked by the tragic development, decided to create a six-episode mini-series, “Spartacus: Gods of the Arena” starring Dustin Clare. In January 2012, the second cycle “Spartacus: Vengeance” began with Liam McIntyre in the title role and then “War of the Damned” with the same protagonist.
The new series will be produced by Lionsgate Television on behalf of Starz.
