Butler up for Best Actor Oscar for ‘Elvis’

Although the Austin Butler and Tom Hanks both recognized for their award-winning performances in the movie ‘Elvis’, the two actors shared fears about the iconic roles they played, the king of rock n’ roll Elvis Presley and his manager, Colonel Tom. Parker.

Austin Butler was a guest on “The Graham Norton Show” and recalled meeting Tom Hanks, whom he called a “legend.”

“Whenever you meet someone you’ve admired for a long time, you hope they’ll warm to you,” Butler said, “but you never really know.” “And someone like Tom, he’s been doing this for so long and he’s such a master of his craft that I was so scared,” the actor continued.

Fortunately for Austin Butler there was no reason to worry.

As the American actor entered their director Baz Luhrmann’s house in Australia at the time, he recalled: “Tom turns around and sees me and says, ‘Boy! Give me a hug’ and gives me the biggest hug.”

“Then Buzz said, ‘Let’s give you guys some time,’ and we just talked for so long,” Butler said.

“At one point Hanks said, ‘I feel so irritated. I’m terrified.’ “Nobody knows what Colonel Parker sounds like. Everyone knows what Elvis sounds like,” he added.

“Suddenly we were colleagues,” Butler told the show’s host Graham Norton. “We were both able to share our fear and we were united that way.”

Butler is up for a Best Actor Oscar for his performance in “Elvis” at the 95th annual awards on March 12. Hanks picked up the Best Supporting Actor trophy at the 2022 Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) Awards.
