Macron government against Disney: New Black Panther film angers French who talk of ‘revisionism’

France’s defense minister criticized the “anti-French” attitude in the film Black Panther: Wakanda Forever – The scenes that angered Paris

France strongly condemned Disney subsidiary Marvel’s new film about the African hero Black Panther, titled Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, saying it creates a “false and misleading impression” because it shows French soldiers attempting to “plunder natural resources” (the fictional precious metal Vibranium ) belonging to the fictional African kingdom of Wakanda.

The Minister of Defense of the Macron government, Sebastian Lecornou, criticized the “anti-French” attitude present in the film Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. The film shows French soldiers invading a base in Mali and trying to steal these resources.

Lecornou, on the other hand, paid tribute to his country’s soldiers who died “defending Mali”.

“I strongly condemn this false and misleading representation of our armed forces,” wrote Sébastien Lecornou on Twitter in response to an extract from the film – despite it being released in UK cinemas three months ago.

“I think of and honor the 58 French soldiers who lost their lives defending Mali, at its request, against Islamist terrorist groups,” wrote 36-year-old Lecornou, France’s youngest cabinet minister.

The film shows French soldiers invading a secret Wakanda base in Mali and abusing scientists as they attempt to steal the kingdom’s precious metal vibranium, only to be neutralized by Wakanda forces.

The film then shows the group of handcuffed French soldiers being brought into a United Nations Assembly and ordered to kneel before the Queen of Wakanda, Ramonda who… he “sings” them to the disgraced French ambassador to the UN.

“Evil French mercenaries operating in Mali dressed as soldiers from Operation Barkhane”a real military mission in the Sahel region commented the journalist Jean Bexon publishing the disputed passage, quoted by the French minister.

The defense ministry clarified to AFP that Paris is not asking for the withdrawal or censorship of a work of art.

But “it cannot be allowed no revisionism on France’s recent actions in Mali: we intervened at the country’s own request to fight armed terrorist groups, far from the story told in the film, which is a French army coming to loot natural resources.” the ministry added. .

Associates of Lecornu said he was “angry about the film”, which was released in theaters as Russia appears to be making progress in turning West African populations against France and its military operations.
