BBB 23: Fred Nicácio reports prejudice suffered in the past; ‘Demanded that I wasn’t gay’

by

Doctor Fred Nicácio, participant of BBB 23, had a frank conversation about racism this Tuesday afternoon (14). Sitting in the outdoor area with MC Guimê, Paula and Bruna, the brother narrated how much he suffered in the past about the pre-established concepts of society.

“The very recent black movement, 15 years ago, demanded that I not be gay because I have to be male, I have to be a big man. And then, what about this affection of the gay black man?”, he began. “I cannot be a hypocrite that I have several things that place me in a different way: I am a doctor, I am a handsome man, I have size, a structured physical body, this already puts me in a place of desire. And when it is a black man, effeminate, fat, gay? Where is he? Who cares about this guy’s affection? And everyone knows a black, fat, effeminate, peripheral man.”

According to Fred, there is a difficulty for black people to express themselves, because of this definition. “People spend their whole lives without knowing what an ‘I love you’ is. This is the result of racism. I always say that racism is a technology, which is renewed and recycled, it is more complex than capitalism”, highlights it.

Previously, the doctor commented on a specific situation in which he felt he had suffered racism. “Once, during the internship, a lady complimented my teeth, and I said: ‘Thank you, people who are black have nice teeth’. She said: ‘Don’t say you’re black, say you’re moreninho’. I said no, I’m black, ma’am. She didn’t mean it, it’s structural racism, because she understands that being black is a bad thing, so being moreninho alleviates this situation.”

CASES OF RACISM

The participant narrated another moment when structural racism was present in his life. “To this day, when I go to the market, I don’t put my hand in my pocket because I know the security guard will say, ‘What’s in your pocket over there?’, to avoid this embarrassment, I don’t put my hand in my pocket.”

Bruna, listening to the conversation, agreed about pruning small attitudes. Fred agreed: “And you get angry because you don’t deserve to go through this. Can’t I put my hand in my pocket?”

Earlier, Paula spoke about a case of racism she suffered at school. At a June party, she wanted to be the gang’s bride. “They came to me and said: ‘You deny having bad hair? You can’t be the bride of the gang, to be the bride you have to be Bruna, for example’. The white, blonde with light eyes could be the bride. (…) It stuck with me and I never understood why.”
