Netflix has announced the premiere date of its prequel series Bridgerton, with a first trailer, where Queen Charlotte will star. The streaming service announced that the series will debuts on May 4 and will “focus on the Queen’s rise to prominence and power”.

“This Bridgerton prequel tells the story of how the young queen’s marriage to King George sparked a great love story as well as social change, inherited by Bridgerton’s characters,” the press release states.

Queen Charlotte will be played by India Amarteifio, while Golda Rosheuvel will continue to portray the adult queen.

The trailer shows how Charlotte met and fell in love with King George III, played by Corey Mylchreest. George’s mother tells him: “Your marriage is the business of this country! This can’t go wrong!” as George and Charlotte dance together in a dance.

The teaser ends with Charlotte defiantly declaring: “This is my home. I’m the queen.”

Michelle Fairley also joins the cast as Princess Augusta, with Arsema Thomas playing young Agatha Danbury.
