The artwork of the eccentric American pop art artist Jeff Koons“Balloon Dog”, worth 42,000 dollars, was unwittingly, according to testimonies, a collector in a gallery in Miami, Florida in the USA!

The event took place during the exclusive VIP-only opening night of Art Wynwood, an annual contemporary art exhibition held in the area.

Artist Stephen Gamson told the Miami Herald that he admired the sculpture when “an old woman touched it, knocking it off its pedestal.” The woman who caused the damage, whose identity has not been released, is an art collector.

At first he wondered if it was part of some… performance, but he quickly realized it was an accident.

“When he hit the ground, he was like when a car accident attracts a huge crowd on the highway”Mr. Gamson characteristically stated to the newspaper.

“Life stopped for 15 minutes with everyone around,” Cedric Boero, who works for Bel-Air Fine Art Galleries, told the New York Times.

However, as it became known, the work is covered by security, as stated by Benedict Kalous, art consultant of the Bel-Air Fine Art galleries, which represents the creator.

It should be noted that despite the fact that the work has been shattered into thousands of pieces, there is still interest in buying it, with one of those interested being Stephen Gamson.

Jeff Koons, for now, has not made statements about the incident.

His series of “Balloon Dog” sculptures are among the most iconic works of modern art and have sold for tens of millions of dollars.

Some are huge – 3 meters tall – but this one was just a “puppy”, with a height of 40 cm.
