67.9% increase they showed last year revenues from tourism, compared to 2021 and amounted to 17.631 billion euros. This development, according to data from the Bank of Greece, reflects the increase in tourist traffic by 89.3% as the number of visitors reached 27.8 million compared to 14.7 million in 2021.

In relation to December 2019, in December 2022 travel receipts recorded a decline of 16.1%although average spend per trip increased by 0.5% as inbound travel fell by 16.2%.

Compared to 2019, in 2022 travel receipts showed a decrease of 3.0%, as well as inbound travel traffic by 11.2%, while the average spend per trip increased by 9.7%.

As regards the increase in receipts, this is due to the increase in receipts from residents of EU-27 countries by 46.8%, which amounted to 9.87 billion euros, as well as receipts from residents of non-EU-27 countries by 105.2%, which amounted to 7.2 billion euros.

Receipts from residents of the euro zone countries amounted to 8.0196 billion euros, increased by 44.9%.

In terms of incoming travel traffic from Germany showed an increase of 45.0% and amounted to 4.35 million travelers, as well as from France by 49.6% and amounted to 1.76 million travelers.

In relation to countries outside the EU 27, travel traffic from the United Kingdom increased by 181.9% to 4.5 million travelers and that from the USA by 174.9% to 1.008 million travelers. Finally, travel traffic from Russia decreased by 69.8% and amounted to 36.1 thousand travelers.

Increased travel receipts resulted in the travel balance last year showing a surplus of 1507 billion euros, against a surplus of 9.4 billion euros in 2021. An increase of 7.2 billion euros or 67.9% was shown by travel receipts, which amounted to 17.8 billion. euros, while an increase of 822.6 million euros or 73.9% was also observed in travel payments, which amounted to 1,935.1 billion euros.
