“If all goes well, by the time you’re reading this, Carter and I will have a baby boy,” she began. “We plan to call him Phoenix, a name I decided on years ago when I was looking up cities, countries and states on a map.
I want my son to grow up knowing that disaster and triumph come and go throughout our lives and that this should give us great hope for the future.
Even when the past is painful and the present seems ominous, it’s strange how two ideas that are so different, so completely opposite, can co-exist and work wonders. Freedom and pain, joy and sorrow, love and loss. His name, then, is Phoenix Barron Hilton Reum. And his middle name is Barron after my grandfather Barron Hilton, who has always been my mentor. The “golden” heiress kept the news of her son’s arrival a secret, not only from the public, but also from her own family. “Not even my mother, my sister, my best friends, nobody knew,” she explained. “Because I feel like my life has been so public and I’ve never had anything that was really mine.
