Her relocation National Library of Greece (EBE) from Vallianio Megaro to Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC) was a huge project for which its Director General, from 2014 to 2023, Philippos H. Tsiboglou, who recently passed away, worked tirelessly for. In his honor, on Wednesday, March 8 at 4:00 p.m. and at 6:30 p.m., the documentary by Ilias Giannakakis, “Transportation”, will be screened in the Book Tower on the ground floor of EBE. The screenings will be prefaced by Stavros Zoumboulakis, President of the Electoral Council of the National Library of Greece.
A few words about the film:
The National Library unites the past with the present and wonders about the future. The old building of the National Library of Greece dominates the center of Athens, with its neoclassical columns trying to recall the golden age of Pericles and the ancient sages.
Few of the townspeople seem to care about her. While preparations have begun to transport the looted and age-worn books, the city resembles a battlefield. We simultaneously watch the transport and the city seethe, but always remain fascinating. And we hear the voice of the National Library that unites the past with the present and wonders about the future.
A documentary that attempts to compose a large mosaic of stories and emotions, through short narratives and actions, unifying time and space, with the aim of creating a collective existential psychograph of a country, through its National Library.
For a transfer that for the most part of the film few believe will finally take place and when it happens, it seems to be done without concern to anyone, and against a city divided, given over to poverty and extremes. A metaphor, however, that may ultimately signify much more than a simple technical process of relocating the books.
