By being naked for a few moments in the monologue “Prazer, Hamlet”, inspired by the classic by the English playwright William Shakespeare, actor Rodrigo Simbas feels free to reveal that he is a bisexual man.
“I’ve never exposed it, but I’m a bisexual man. It’s a label, but I feel mature and calm to talk about it now,” said the 31-year-old actor in an interview with the newspaper Extra.
The play, which is based on texts written between 1599 and 1601, premieres in Rio de Janeiro this Saturday (4), at Teatro Glaucio Gill, in Copacabana, with authorship and direction by Ciro Barcelos.
Simas plays an actor who is about to debut the famous show, unfolding into three central characters. He wears a chastity belt and quickly strips naked.
“During rehearsals, I saw myself a lot in the place of the character in the play, the actor who goes through conflicts and fears. I thought that wanting to do a monologue, at my age, meant giving myself a lot of importance. With Ciro’s invitation, I realized that it was, in fact, having a lot of courage. I almost gave up everything, for fear of not being able to handle it. I freaked out”, he told the Rio de Janeiro newspaper.
Simas, who is in a relationship with actress Agatha Moreira, also said he is undergoing therapy, sessions that began when he moved in with her during the pandemic. “It was a moment when many people needed this psychological support. It’s self-knowledge.”
Another personal revelation is that he and the actress do not intend to have children at the moment, although they have already talked about it.
Without giving details, he said that he will be in a Star + series, which is still in the beginning of preparations.
