The Department of Prosecution of Extortionists of the Attica Security Directorate proceeded to dismantle a criminal organization which, with threats, demanded an extortionate sum of 100,000 euros from the owner of a clothing store in Agia Varvara.

According to ELAS, during a special operation, a 43-year-old and a 38-year-old man were arrested yesterday, Thursday, March 2, in Agia Varvara.

At the same time, the case file includes the leading member of the gang, a 46-year-old Albanian who is in prison, and two more people who are wanted. It is noted that members of the criminal organization have employed ELAS for homicides as well.

The defendants, as established by the police investigation, recently demanded from the shop owner to pay them the amount of 100,000 euros, while in order to achieve their goal, they threatened the life of both him and members of his family. According to ELAS, in the attempt of the defendants to “convince” him of their intentions, on the order of the 46-year-old prisoner, they procured appropriate weapons and shot once at the shopkeeper’s car, while it was parked outside his house.

From the searches carried out in houses and in a prison cell, 2 mobile phones were located and confiscated, as well as a weapon accessory.

Those arrested, with the case filed against them, were taken to the public prosecutor and referred to an investigator.
